Hard starting and glowing at converter
When I first got this car, '85 GS all stock it ran fine. Started it everyday , plenty of power. Went out one day last week and the damn thing wouldn't start without pumping the gas. Started up ran until warmed up, when the choke kicked off motor starts running rough. Looked under the car and the pipe was glowing. What the hell could have happened? I didn't touch a thing It's just like I got it. Any Ideas?
Carb could be running lean and/or cat is clogged. Try getting a new cat, or if your state has no emissions laws for your year car, get a bonez racing pipe/test pipe.

The only thing I can think of I did hook up the hose to the split air tube. It was blocked off when I got it. Could that be it?
Sounds like your cat collapsed. Usually if you are running lean, everything before the cats will glow. If glowing seems to be originating from the cat.........
Not sure what hose your talking about.

Yeah, you may have lost your leading ignition. Another option, as Perfect Circle mentioned, is that your timing is too far retarded. Loss of leading ignition results in massively retarded ignition, so it could be either one. When the spark hits too late (retarded), then part of the combustion occurs right at the point of exhausting, which will heat up the exhaust system like nothing else.
These things would be easier to check than replacing your cat, so I would recommend you start there. Good luck...
