Question hard to restart after turned off.

i have an 83 gsl and when i drive for a while and it is warmed up it has a hard time restarting. like it has too much fuel or it wants to hesitate. also i have a fuel pressure regulator on it, out of 6 it is set on 3. would this have anything to do with it. after it starts it runs great. it just hesitates to restart. when the engine is cold it starts right away. im confused. please help....

Mine used to be impossible to start after I shut it off when it was warm. My solution was to put in a fuel cut switch. That way you can turn the fuel pump off before you shut off the car, which will keep it from flooding and being hard to start the next time.

Hard start after being warmed up can be a symptom of low compression. Might be a good idea to get it checked out.

dude, you need to know EXACTLY what the fuel pressure to your car is. Setting 3? WTF is that? Get a gauge and find out precisely what you are pumping to the motor before doing anything else.

I'd say fuel pressure too. I used to think hard warm starts were caused by missing chrome, but I changed the fuel pump and exhaust system, and it now starts really fast when fully warmed up.

Check for low compression too.

If it's flooding after you shut it off, the needle and seats are probably leaking. The float levels could be too high also.
