H4

Okay, I am upgrading to the H4 headlights, (I know, I have fifty projects going on at once....) I dont want to spend $40 on a pre-wired heavy duty harness. I know some of you have done this modification. What do I need (relays, wireing, etc.) to make a harness that will keep my combo switch from burning up? If you can provide a wiring diagram, or a picture of some sort.
Thanks,
Chris

i just got the h4 conversion housings from lordco, no wiring changes at all, but i kept the stock bulbs (that came with the H4 housing), unless you need some crazy wattage the factory wiring works fine.

compared to factory headlights they work wonders, but a higher watt bulb would help, too. i just dont see the need for it.

Head over to www.danielsternlighting.com

They have instruction for converting the system to relays. This will allow the use of higher wattage bulbs without stressing the stock wiring, but even if you don't upgrade the bulbs you will see a huge improvement in light output over the stock wiring. I have done this, and I highly recommend it.

I did my own wiring per the thread, I bought a fuse block, 10 gauge wire, used three (I added a third for my spotlights and wired them into my highbeam) Ford relays off an old Crown Vic, the diagram in the thread works fine. I also purchased two new headlight plugs with larger wires attached. I got my parts at Advance Auto.

I use H4s also and this made them much brighter than the old wiring did

Just get your loom made up out of the car, then when you're ready, you just cut the old plugs off and connect everything up. Works great.

That's where I got my H4 conversion replacement lenses and bulbs. They're huge improvements over stock though probably illegal-the highbeams will definitely get you noticed.
