Guess that car!
Guess that car!
Well, it was time to move on to something a little less rusty. The SA has been deemed as a donor, and i have gone and spent 3500 dollars on a new car! But can you guys bet what it is? I`ll give you a cuple of clues:
1. It is of course a 1,gen RX. (Duuhh...)
2. It has fuel injection, originally, but its not a 13B.
3. It has vented disc`s all around and adjustable bilstein suspension, and its all original!
4. It was the most powerful RX you could buy back in the 80`s.
Now, what model have i bought? Dont worry, pix will be up in a couple of days!

Must be the only other FI engine factory, the 12A Turbo
3. It has vented disc`s all around and adjustable bilstein suspension, and its all original! The GT Turbo came with Adjustable Suspension and Vented Disc's all the way around. It Also has the same setup a GSL-SE has with very minor differences. Most parts swap exactly.
4. It was the most powerful RX you could buy back in the 80`s.
160HP was a very respectable weapon in the 1980's. Much better than the 135 the SE's put out.

your SA is my favorite SA ive ever seen, it really sucks you have to turn it into a donor car. i was hoping to make the front end on my SA look like yours. how exactly did you accomplish your front? i know it took a lot of custom work and im pretty sure you got your front bumper from selectmaz, but what all did you have to do? how much trouble was it to put the rear FB lights on your SA? if you are going to part it out can i see more pics of the car? i might be intereste in some parts, but im sure the shipping would KILL me.

Not necessarily correct . In Japan the RX-7 came in 3 grades GT, GT-X, and SE-Ltd, The 1985 model had the choice of 12A NA carby, or the efi turbo model. In typical fashion there was also a short run model, the GT-Ltd which only came in silver.
The quoted ouput was165hp, but remember this was Japanese specificationds which use JIS. This is approximately 142 hp in SAE specification used in the USA
The 12A NA sold in Japan was about 112hp as was all their rhd export models such as the Aussie S3, and according to Mazda sources the efi tubo version was 27.5% more powerful. However what was more importan6t was the significant improvement in torque as the engine was designer for the 4 door Cosmo making it the quickest productio0n car in Japan. With the same engine the RX-7 was slightly slower.

Well guys, you guessed it! It is a Savannah GT-X. I`ll tell you a little bit about the car:
It has all the service records, a full log book and is in pristine condition! Mileage is a measly 94000 km, wich translates to about 60 000 miles! It still has the original paintwork, no dents and dings! Every single little gadget works, even the buzzer that goes of when you exceed 105 km per hour!
The price? 25000 norwegian kroner, or about 3500 dollars!
Here is a picture of the interior, a little dirty at the time, but take a look at the seats! They are not even worn!

And a picture of the outside, also a little dirty due to winter storage in a barn!

As to the SA, i will take some pics of how the FB rear lights are fitted today, and post them as soon as i can. Its a shame the SA has to die, but there is just to much rust and shady bodyrepairs under the surface.. Though it looks ok on the outside, its really bad under all the plastic and fibreglass. But not to worry! The parts will come in good use!
More pictures of the GT-X to come, when i get around to washing it!
