Guaging interest in rear battery Holder

As the title mentions I'm seeing if anyone would want any rear batter holders to fit under the storage bins. Either way I will be doing one for myself, but seeing if anyone else would want one too. The plan is to make it as a total bolt on affair. I personally don't like the idea of drilling holes in the floor hence why i'm doing this.

I'm going to try to get like a prototype done up and glued with JB weld, but the real ones would be done in either Aluminum or Steel. Steel would really cut cost down quite a bit. I need to figure out how much cost would be too but hoping for something in the range of 50$. If It will be done out of steel, I can also try to get them powder coated in black or something simple just to prevent them from rusting. Trochoid on the forum provides Powder Coating services, so i can try to work out details with him on how much they would run to get them powder coated. Maybe he will see this post and chime in.

The Plan is the make it adjustable in holding small batteries or large ones like Optima's and the like. Like previously mentioned I'm still unsure about prices but as soon as I get drawings sent out to a few shops and see what they charge I will let you know what the cost would be for both aluminum and Steel.

So just shoot away if you might be interested.

Sam

all I did was take a rubber coated metal tray ($12 @ PartSource) and use industrial adhesive to glue it to the storage bin area floor. The soft adhesive levelled out the somewhat uneven surface and provides a bond string enough to practically pick the car up by.

Then it was a simple matter of using a metal battery strap and two tie-down bolts hooked into the tray. Done and done.

Thought about glueing things down ... but i don't know if I'd trust that.By the looks of it. I might just to get a couple of holes drilled though the cross member. I totally thought the amps when through it but they go through the sheet metal piece that holds the bins, but I'm going to try going against that.

I'll see how things go. I just took down some sizes right now and hopefully I can call a few places up today.

Industrial adhesive creates a bond in a patch shape, not just @ the edges - which is why Lotus uses adhesive to assemble frame components rather than welding or bolting.

Still, if you make a metal bit that looks better than standard Canadian Tire tie-down straps, you'll have something

Back when I had storage bins, I used a GM base mount tray. Can't remember which vehicle I took it from, but it fit in the bin just fine. The base mount made access easier and made it look a little cooler. I used a full size Optima.

I'd definetly be interested. As long as it was an all inclusive kit. That is, it includes everythingggg I need to complete the install. Cables, etc.

Even if it's just the holder, so long as it's hidden by the storage bin lid, I'd be down. Gotta relocate once I install my FMIC, and figuring out how to secure the battery back there has been kind of draining my motivation to do it.

Sam, why re-invent the wheel?? I have a Braille battery that only weighs 11 pounds and will start ANY rotary motor all day long.. It has an extruded aluminum mount that comes with the battery. I think I paid 40-50 for the battery holder and it mounted up great!!!

Sam, please build truly unique parts for our cars that no-one else makes.... PLEASE!!!

I wouldn't want it in one of the storage bins, I think I'd rather have it in an open spot. Was thinking in front of one of the Tailights, but, that's a little high.

Sam is making unique first gen parts and as you may notice this thread was started 4 years ago. He has yet to mention a battery relocation kit being in the plans for RE-Speed. That being said, the one he custom made for me is pretty sweet.

I'll be relocating my battery to the storage bin to remove about 40 pounds from the engine bay, because I'll be adding 80 pounds. I probably won't be able to wait for Sam to make a kit.

I figure a couple of angle irons cut at 45 degrees to make a frame (group size 24 dimensions) and then a tab at each side for a set of long hold down bolts. A flat bar across the top with two holes and you're done. Bolting the frame to the storage bin floor should be easy enough. Just gotta make sure the tabs will clear the shape of the floor in there.

Hey I remember one time peejay was complaining about the weight of the battery cable you have to use when you relocate a battery. lol
