guage cluster removal

once again a topic that would have been solved by searching... but since its down I'll ask.

How do you remove the 84-85 guage cluster with out breaking it??? Some people say they "broke" it and now its easier to remove... what exactly broke, and is it important?

maybe they mean the screw at the back that's underneath and is pretty much impossible to remove? That's what I think of when people say something snapped and it came out real easy after....

hmmm, the problem I'm having (I might end up experienceing the one you desribed though, I just dont think I have gotten far enough to where its a problem.)
is that the cluster will not physically come out with out bending it. I removed the lenze of course.

Its those two little bumps at the bottom, any way I dont want to snap somthing trying to get the damn thing out of there!

my 85 has no screw on the back...I agree w/bubba211...remove visible screws and tilt it forward working it back and forth...can be removed w/o removing the steering wheel

keep the lens on it and remove it as a whole unit.
Really hepful is to go to Staples (or whatever) and get one of those little keyboard air brushes...It holds a little CO2 cartridge. It's great for blowing the lint off the gauge faces before re-installation. But keep it 6 inches away!!! It comes out cold andcan shoot condesation that collects from the tube. Then you have a water drop mark.

you need a screwdriver, a rabbit's foot, and a four-leafed clover to remove those clusters properly
