Gslse vs. b20/b16 civic
I know we have a kills section, but it feels like if i don't have a big turbo and beatin supra's then i shouldn't post in there.. so here it is..
I have an 84 SE with s4 block, stock SE ecu, full racing beat exhaust (magnaflow instead of powerpulse). that's it. Opponent has 92-95 civic, with a full frankenstein swap. that's a b20 block with a b16 head, Vtec, exhaust, fuel rail, short stack intake. looks like the average civic.. Only reason i raced him is i wanted to see how the swap runs, and if i should keep my distance from another..
So the race. We head out to a peach field with a straight-away, no neighborhood road. he doesn't wanna start from a dig cause he says he never catches traction through first. so we start from 25 and punch it. about even through the rest of first (about 2 seconds worth). I shift to second and start to pull on him. Get to the end of second and have about 1.5 cars between us. Go to third and pull a little more to around 2-2.5 cars between us. we shut down about the time i need to shift to 4th. Do another run starting from 40 with about me about 1.5 cars at the end of 3rd.
Dude was alright about it, no excuses or anything, pretty good run. It's amazing what full exhaust can do to the first gen. My car does 9.60 in the 1/8th, to give an idea of what I got. Got a vid on a Razr phone, but it was opponent's friend's phone and i doubt he's gonna let it get out...

Damn. Either your a relly good driver, or hes a really bad one. Hes probably putting about the same wheel horse power down as you, maybe more, and a hatch can way around 2100 pounds, when theyre stripped. Probably weigh about as same as you stock. SHould been a closer race. But congrats, definatly. Thats a worthy opponent.

Either he was a terrible driver or the cars setup was wrong
b20/b16 head has a lot of torque (for a civic) and a nice punch at high RPM. Those engines make a lot of power well tuned. A lot more power than a gsl-se with exhaust.

it's not bad when driving normal, but under WOT, it's pretty frikkin loud.
And I was shocked to have beat him so easily too. Come to find out it's a b18 head, and the ecu is unknown, but bounces off redline at 7 grand. Point is his friends put the car up there as unbeatable, and well I proved that wrong by the end of 2nd..
car has potential, just not getting the most for the swap at the moment..
