You can borrow the tool from AutoZone. The piston actually threads into an adjusting screw for the parking brake mechanism.

Yep, I bought one of those tools, like $15.00 for future use. Took 5 min each caliper to turn the piston into the new pad position.

If you're really skilled, or motivated, you can use a pair of needle nose pliers spread apart to fit into the notches on the caliper piston face, and then put a screwdriver across the legs of the pliers to get enough leverage to turn them in.

They will screw in the correct threaded direction that you'd expect - no tricks there.

Having the right tool is one that will get thrown in your toolbox and pulled out from time to time, so it's good to have, and not very expensive. HTH,

I have a set of extra long needle nose pliers. One of them is bent at 90*, works.

ill just buy the tool today when i go get belts and other such things i need to finally try to start my car up today

also, on the back of the hawk pads theres a little nub. it seems as though itll get caught in the caliper as the calipers turns out. i dont see how this wont be a problem, input?

I went out and took a picture of mine because I didn't remeber that tab, but it's there. I think it's there to locate the shim on the back, so apparently it is above where the piston makes contact.
