OR gsl-se transmission electrical Q

Hi, 1985 gsl-se. I'm stumped on the tranny electric hookups. I have two manuals with most of the electrical information I need. But here are my questions.

Q1. My tranny has only one electrical connector. It is on the drivers side, 4 wire connector. I interpret this as a combo 5th switch/reverse light connector. Am I right? Or is the neutral switch supposed to use any of the wires?

Q2. All other pics I have seen of the tranny that is supposed to be in my car have a neutral switch located on the drivers side, near the top, just in front of the tube extending from the shifter housing. My car has nothing there. There is a place where it looks like something could thread in, but there are no threads and no plug in that spot, just a dead hole. Does this make any sense? Could my tranny be some sort of general replacement, not model specific, and not be drilled for a neutral switch?

Q3. If I solve all this mystery, I don't know what the wire colors for the 5th switch are. In my harness is an extra brown/black lead and a spare ground that might be it. My wire diagram has a blue/white going to the Over Top Switch, which I think is really the 5th switch, that is fed by the acv relay and therefore signals the air control valve. Can anybody confirm which is right?

One more clue, I picked up what is supposed to be a neutral switch at a junkyard the other day. The tranny was supposed to be out of an 84 gsl-se (I did see such a car in the lot). The tranny had a 4 wire connector like mine and in the same spot as my 4 wire. The 2 wire neutral switch came from a hole in the same spot where my tranny has no threads.
The tranny is in the car, so I can't see much. There is a bolt on the drivers side, at the very back of the shifter housing, same size as an electrical plug. Could that be a plug for where a switch belongs (reverse?)?
Thanks.

I'm curious on this question. Are you having any Reverse light problems, or brake light problems?

As far as a "Neutral Safety Switch", well....AFAIK, our cars don't really have one. Lots of members with -SEs have been able to start their car without having to push in the clutch (and being in neutral of course).

Here is what your GSLSE transmission should look like. Easy way to identify it as a GSLSE is the large open vent on the right side. All the wires are marked. More GSLSE engine pics...

Best I can tell, the only real function of the neutral switch is to signal the cruise control, my only desire to have it back. It is supposed to allow 12 V to pass from the ecu when the car is in any gear.

74RX4-this most excellent photo does match my transmission. Except that the switch I have been thinking is the neutral switch mystery hole you have labeled over-top. My 4 wires were busted off the other switch. I tracked the pair that fired the reverse lights, no problem. The other pair will pass 12V from the ecu, but only in 5th gear. This can pass as a neutral switch (which I have gone ahead and wired in) but truly I think it's behaving as the over-top switch, if I understand the Air Control Valve relay and system. As you, and now I have it wired, this would only allow the cruise to work in 5th gear. (I don't have cruise working yet to know, it's some other problem.)
What is your take on the role of the over-top switch? Does it only pass a signal the the ACV system in 5th?
