GSL-SE sputters at 5k-6k RPM?? HELP
I asked this question before but looking for more ideas. I replaced the fuel filter , it was full of rust colored gas...I definitely needed to do that. The plugs and wires are new. I have done nothing under the dist. cap. The fuel pump is noisy and the sound surges up and down. Is my fuel pump bad?? How do I know if it is bad? I have not checked the timing. ShallI throw fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank to clean things up? I have been told not to use that stuff....but..... I sincerely look forward to your suggestions..I want to correct this asap....Thanks much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when you replaced the filter did you look at the strainer in the inlet side of the pump (it is shaped like a cone)mine was stopped up and i didn't even know it was there untill i replaced the pump
mine does that too, at about 5K in second gear it just splaters, and then when i put it into 3rd and it takes a few seconds to get going..
also it has a stupid idle. it will be fine for a sec then die for 1/2 a sec then goes normal agian and drops..
i tried to see if there was a vacume leak but didnt find anything so i think i gota check my pump now..

On the GSL-SE, Check your 5th and 6th ports. Sounds like they may be stuck partially open. This would cause it to idle funny due to the increased air getting in at low speed, and prevent you from getting the High RPM power you're looking for by choking off your air.
Do a search on how to clean them here and in the 2nd Gen forum. It cann't hurt to have them working nice and clean anyway.

It's definitely something in the fuel. If the ports were stuck open, it shouldn't affect anything except low end torque (unless they're only partially open, in which case they'd just leave you a little less power, but not like hitting a wall).
If I had to put my word on one thing, I'd say the whole fuel system needs a good cleaning. You could try just draining the tank (there's a bolt on there) first. While the plug is out, dump a gallon in there to flush it out a little. Dropping the tank and really cleaning it is better, but this is alright. Depending on how serious you are about this, you could take off the lines (they're not that tough, just time consuming) and flush those out. Then take off the whole fuel pump and filter thing (everything covered by that metal piece) and inspect/clean all that.
If there really is something blocking your fuel lines, there's no easy way to fix it. Fuel injector cleaner may be a good idea (I don't use it and can't recommend it) but only after the lines are clean. The last thing you want is for something to get dislodged from the lines and plug up an injector or something.
