Question GSL-SE radio install / Empeg

Well, I know I've been gone a while, so I figured I'd swing back and say yo

Anyway, I just picked up an empeg (if you don't know what that is, goto geek.empeg.com and peek around), and the initial plan was to stick it where the tape deck was. In all theory it'd fit, but the cage that the tuner/tape/eq is held together by is exactly 1 DIN in width (alternativly, so is the empeg ) So unless anyone wants to fab be a bracket that'll bolt the stock tuner / eq and a 1DIN accessory (or knows where I can get one) I guess the question to all you stereo guru's out there is where the hell did you find the 2 1/2 DIN -> 1 DIN conversion kits. Everywhere locally looks at me funny when I ask for one for an 85 RX-7 :p

TIA & Wish me luck on the upcoming clutch / megasquirt installs

Ask for a Metra 86-92 kit. It works on the 84-85's.

Metra? Is that a brand?

Or are you saying that the 86-92 RX-7 kits will fit the 84-85's?

Metra is the maker of the kits, available at most audio stores and autozones. Also Best Kits is another source for a good multi purpose mazda kit.

Cool, I'll go looking around tomorrow night and hopefully will find something.

I got a 30G empeg direct from sonicblue, it's probably the sweetest thing ever, but I really wish I could retain the stock tuner and eq to make the install look even more stock. I'm already going to paint the bezel silver and I've got a red screen kit on the way to turn the VFD red.

Oh well, at least I'll have 512 hrs of music in the car to get me to and from races

Dang It!!! I have been drooling over one of those for a while now and I still cant afford one. I'vee seen a few go on Ebay for 4 bills, but I cant afford that...Someday Ill find one! Red sounds swwet for the VFD instead of blue, itll match the interior better. Ok, well enjoy the Empeg, and if you ever wanna get rid of it, you know who to call

Well I got ahold of a friend's digital camera and took some pics of the install. The rear outputs on the empeg go directly into the amp for the sub, and the fronts go into the OEM harness. I tried to just replace the tape deck with the empeg, but without some major fabrication for a mounting bracket it wouldn't work. The pics are pretty big, so they're not for the faint hearted (or slow connectioned). I'll shrink them down a touch when I get to a pc with a photo editor on it.
