My GSL-SE has burgandy leather and my friends GSL-SE (both 1984 models) has burgandy fabric. So yes, it was a option on the GSL-SE.
Even though this tough leather doesn't feel like leather you get in cars nowadays.

I have leather in my 85-se, drivers was recovered and is nice and soft. I will say thoough that I liked the cloth in my 84-gs better, much cooler and no butt sweat. If I find a "perfect" set of red at the wrecker I might pull & swap. But I'd keep mine anyway due to the value.

There were only two options for the GSL-SE: Power steering, and leather interior.
It's really ironic. The GSL's roots were in the '80 LS ("Leather Sport") model, which had leather interior standard. For '81 they added rear discs and a limited slip, re-named it GSL... and made leather interior *optional*. GSL-SE is just GSL with bigger brakes, wheels, and engine.

GSL = Grand Sport Luxury
GSL-SE = Grand Sport Luxury - Special Edition
Pamela had a cloth interior, Carmen currently has leather - I plan to swap the two.

Leather:
Reeks
Cracks
Is uncomfortable to sit on
Is difficult for sporting driving (slide around on the seat)
Is horrible in the winter
Is even worse in the summer

Hot in summer, cold in winter, no traction to keep you from sliding around in seat when cornering. And unless regularely treated and maintained, it cracks and rips, looking far cheaper than cloth.
