GSL-SE intake question

I now im gunna get crap for this. But whats the choke point of an SE intake(what ultimately limits flow) is it the throttle body or the runners themselves? If its the throttle body what can one do to it to improve flow? Or could you somehow get a s4 or s5 to fit assuming they flow more? As for the runners thats pretty obvios i'd probably get them extrude honed and port matched. I also want to keep my 6 ports.

Thats my theory so what do you know?

It's the afm, and no, the 2nd gens are not interchangeable due to voltage differences. If you want more flow, go standalone. But then you'll never really max the afm until you seriously boost it.

Going to a standalone is already in the works. Iim just tying to figure out wich way for an intake i want to go. Its either an ITB or i breathe on my stock intake to have it more sleeperish wich is the way i would like to go but ive heard SE intakes in particular the throttlebody, are very restricive compared to others. im not tying to buld a fast car just a quick one around 250hp

for that, your going to need boost, either turbo it, or swap to a TII.

It's the airflow meter get yourself a "map ecu" and change over to a map system. You'll probably make 10hp at the wheels just making the switch. That's my plan for my S5 swap after it smogs of course. That and a Full RB exhaust and I'm done for a while

...where can you get a map ecu? Or are you talking about once you have a standalone unit switch it over to a map setup?

If your going to run a standalone...just upgrade to an S5 intake system.

the whole pont of trying to keep the SE intake is to fool people into thinking its stock but if that dont ill probably go buy an ITB. i had one hell of a sleeper with my ranger so its kinda what if going for here. i just loved the looks on peoples faces when i stomped them with a little ranger haha.

Id say do the s5 intake....most people wont even know its not the original intake...extrude hone and port match it and it would be a badass system.

It's simple but very effective on air flow metered cars. If you don't want to buy this save your money and get a AEM unit most other units aren't worth anything if you ask me. If your going to buy a cheaper unit this will be all you need if you need to wring out every last hp then you can't avoid buying an AEM there is nothing better at this time. Haltechs are junk in my opinion although I know there are a lot of guys on here with them and that's great for them if you like that sort of ecu.

Hmm...would a map ecu work well on a GSL-SE with s4 intake and 2.5" cat-back?...or do you think it would be a waste of money? Im going turbo in the near future but im doing a few small things to my GSL-SE motor.

It works on any car with an airflow meter. That's the main point. The second point is being able to tune the car with it. It is a piggyback but the new one controls ignition timing as well. Also the newer one has on board boost control. Negating the need to buy an external boost controling unit. All you have to do is by a GM Boost solenoid and wire harness which cost approx. $50 at the dealer. So with the $730 you spend for the unit after shipping to the US. you now don't need to buy a 3-4 hundred dollar boost controller plus a tunable ecu. It aslo can control N2O or methonal injection. We've used it on a lot of customer cars it works well and is easy to tune. I will be getting one for my rx unless I figure out a way to buy a AEM unit.
