GSL-SE Exhaust Question

Does anyone know the difference between the intermediate exhaust pipe for an 84 verses an 85? They have different part numbers. Thanks.

If you are referring to the pipe that goes from the rear cat to the muffler, it is the exact same part. Bosal part number 834-337. Who is giving you two different part numbers?

You can even use the 12a part if you like. It has an extra port out the side that you'll need to plug, but the bends, flanges and hangers are the same.

it does show two parts numbers in the parts catalog.

'84 SE: N304-40-200A
'85 SE: N304-40-200B

There are also different parts numbers for 12A's and auto 12A's.

No idea if there is actually a difference. I need to replace this pipe on mine.

The Mazda factory parts manual (page 1-L10)shows a different # for pipes made up to Feb 1984 and pipes made thereafter.

Do you know if the Bosal part comes with the tabs to mount the heat shield?

both are NLA from Mazda. i'd bet the change was something dumb like the supplier, and IF it was available you would have gotten the N304-40-200B.

i guessed at the part number, but the N249-40-200B is NLA also.

I got a brand new one from NAPA two months ago. Less than $70.00.

Will it fit an 85 GSL-SE?

$70 isn't bad, probably couldn't get one custom made for that.
