aftermarket water temp gauge question

I just replaced the water temp switch (below the oil filter) in my 79 SA with a stock replacement. I was wondering if I bought an aftermarket electric water temp gauge if it would be compatible with the temp switch I just installed? Thanks.

Agree ^^ tried it in mine and it didnt work. if your gonna go with an electric gauge by one that comes with the sensor, i personally think they work alot better. I use glowshift in my 85 and they work great! fairly cheap aswell..

Thanks for the quick replies. So assuming I bought one with a sensor and wanted to use it in the stock location (rather than drilling and tapping), do you know what the stock thread size is on my 79 so I can make sure I get the right adapter?

off the top of my head i do not know i can look when i get to the house, but to he honish i would change the spot depending on how built your 7 is. my sensor was at the bottom of the radiator and by the time the car is warm the gauge isnt reading over 100 so i relocated my to the water pump neck and it gets great readings.

http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/ those are the ones i use, super easy to install

if you've removed the stuff on top of the engine, you can use the spot in the back of the water pump housing.
