GSL-SE engine removal question.

Hi,

I am in the middle of removing my engine, and am having a little trouble determining exactly what all the electrical connectors actually are as I disconnect them. I am confused a little by the diagram below: (Pg 249 of haynes manual 79-85)

...maybe it will make more sense when I remove the entire "Dynamic chamber assembly"?Are the connectors labled as "2" under that?? I had hoped I could just leave that on and remove it with the entire engine...perhaps not? Are #4 and #5 the green and orange connectors on the drivers side? ( I can post engine pics if necessary)

If there is a post here on the forum and I didn't find it, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
-nate

Yes, 4 and 5 are the orange and green connectors. #2 are the injectors to the fuel injectors, #1 is the O2 sensor, #3 is the coolant temp sensor. #1 and #2 are under the dynamic intake. #3 is on the back of the water pump. And the remaining ones in the pic are on the solenoid rack (where the orange and green plugs are).

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Ok, cool...I was pretty sure about 4 and 5. So...I guess that means the dynamic intake has to come of right? No way to get under there otherwise?

Yes, you are best off taking it off. The O2 sensor can sometimes be removed without taking off the intake, but you will need to remove the intake to get the injectors disconnected.

To remove the intake, there are 4 nuts, 1 bolts (12mm) that attach the upper part of the intake to the lower intake (by where the black inlet duct is). There are also 2 10mm bolts under the RE-EGI box on the side where all the solenoids are (hard to see). Remove the two small coolant line that go to the throttle body. Remove accelerator and cruise control cable, unplug BAC valve, remove wire that goes to alternator (on that black plastic block on the side of the RE-EGI box), remove vacuum hoses (4 in the front, 2 in the very back, 2 on the driver side), undo the air temp sensor plug (below the BAC valve on the driver side). That should get it off.

One thing is to be careful unpluging the injectors. The are metal clips that go around the outside of the connector that should be removed before pulling the connector. The connectors are very brittle usually and will break if you are not careful. If the connectors do break, you can get replacements at AutoZone and other auto parts places for about $6 each (BOSCH connectors).
