GSL-SE brakes same as '81 GSL?

I recently had complete brake failure on my '81 GSL. Resulting in a busted rear brake line and master cylinder. I recently found a '85 GSL-SE in the junk yard(unfortunatly unsalvagable) I was pondering if I could swipe the master cylinder and rear brake line and if they are compatible. My '81 also has rear discs. Thanks

Are the brakes the same? No.

Different bolt pattern (110mm GSL, 114.3mm SE)

Different position (SE brakes have a different offset, different caliper position)

SE brakes are vented, GSL rear discs are solid.

SE brake rotors have a greater diameter.

Can you use the master cylinder? Tough to say, but I NEVER recommend using junkyard parts for something that critical.

Although, to add to Manntis's comments. The master cylinders are different. Ask me how I know.

Just do a compleat brake swap. You will get the better Brakes and a better bolt pattern. I would just buy the master cylinder and brake line new.

Stirred.. just get NEW parts man... if its not OEM.. at least they are some new ones from a local auto parts place.. brakes are important... I haven't been driving my SE for 1 1/2wks cuz my brakes are squeeling...you'd might call me a P^$$y for not driving it if you didn't know the rotors have been under spec since last jan of 02.....waiting on my powerslots from mariah... then I can slap on the Hawks everyone has been raving about... and get ready for some whiplash..

I'd get braided lines to never worry about blowing one again. As for the MC, I'd only recommend a used one if you rebuild it yourself and do a damn good job.

About not driving a car because the brakes squeel, that doesn't seem right. Brake squeel does not mean there's a problem in the brakes (unless the pad is entirely gone, down to the screamer, and that's a different sound altogether). In fact, many high performance brake pads will squeel much more than an OEM pad. This shouldn't worry you, it's just annoying.
