you probably won't seen an increase, and swapping the intire s4 ecu and all is going to be a hassel, your going to do the same amount of work as it would take to get a s5 turbo motor running on a factory ecu in your first gen... save your money and do that.

it helps top end power, you get bigger throttle body, and runners.
S4 intake on a GSL-SE engine will block off the port air passage, so it will NOT pass smog, if it matters.
most of the rest is pretty straight forward, do a little searching

GSLSE stock has 135hp. The s4 has more compression, more injectors and 146 hp, the s5 has the vdi intake, more compression and lighter rotors netting 160 hp. The GSLSE should have more low end torque due to the heavier rotors and flywheel, to swap just the intake with s4 or s5 you will really need to rev your tired stock engine up to see the gains. I suggest you invest in exhaust and gearing to see some measurable gains. I am not gonna say save for a TII transplant. For me, a gslse with a s5 ecu, vdi intake, streetporting, good exhaust, renesis rotors and light flywheel would make an awesome combination.
Rebuild plus rensis rotors and street porting, plus rtek 2.0 and s5 ecu is going to run alot more then a s5 turbo motor, and net more power. but you can beat on an N/a like no bodies business. it's your choice. or your walets..

well, the engine is in good shape, i took the car to mazda and had them do a compression test and it came out, the front rotor is at 112, and the rear was at 113, so like i said im just gonna do the holley 600cfm, what pump should i use to go with it
Do a search for fuel pumps.
I used the info in post #20 in this thread when I put an S4 intake onto a GSLSE several years ago.

500cfm thunderseries, no flooding in tight turns, bolts up to a racing beat intake like a holley, real "real" easy to tune! Primary jetting is done externally (no need to drain fuel), secondaries adjusted with a turn of a couple screws. Very very friendly carb to work with. Accelerator pump adjustment is external with movement of the arm as opposed to buying different power valves for a holley and draining fuel to change them or the jets. Tune it and leave it, no seasonal tuning needed.
If you factor in the odds of keeping tuning consistant, the edelbrock wins. Not that I am a holley hater, I run one now. However my blowthrough project will utilize an edelbrock. Barry Grants=junk
your asking very basic questions, with 100s of post like this one! the search tool is vital to find the information your looking. The big question is how much money your looking to spend. That should narrow it down for you and imo if you have a gsl-se keep it FI and just do all the bolt ons and enjoy the car!!
