GSL axle swap...

I searched and I still need to be sure. I got an 85 GS and I am putting an LSD/disk rear end from a GSL. I got the parking brake cables that attach to calipers and lead to the Y-cable. But I don't have the Y-cable that attaches to the parking brake handle. Do I need that cable? I can figure out the brake line, I'm pretty sure it will match up. What about the distribution block by the master cylinder? Is there anything I'm missing for this swap?

no you can keep the same Y-cable

I did this same swap with my gs and only needed a
:gsl rear end, left/right cables, one brake hose, and a matching year driveshaft

also be on the look out for your passenger side handbrake cable rubbing on your wheel, I zip-tided mine outa the way after it grinded completly through the wheel.

What were you planing on doing to the master cylinder ?

I didn't touch mine other then to bleed the brakes and such, I'm interested if I missed something with my brakes system, they stop the car very well imo how it is.

Well I wasn't planning on doing anything to the master cylinder itself. I thought I had to chnage the distribution block where it splits the front and rear brakes. I guess I can leave it alone. So I need a driveshaft? I can't use the one that is currently on the car?

Gee, thanks. lol. For brake cables, all you need are the rear one on each side, if you are staying with S3 on both axles, driveshaft is the same. I didn't change my proportioning valve, don't know how much difference it really makes.

When I did my swap I did buy the ss brake hose kit, should come with all 5 hoses, 4 for calipers and 1 for the rearend. I think the rear end hose is the same for disc and drum.

My 7 is an 85. So as long as the gsl axle I got is from a 83-85 I will not need another driveshaft, right?

to the best of my knowledge thats correct, alltho some people rather the S2 (81-82) rears for the fact that the u-joint is servicible unlike the S3.

Correct, all 83-85 S/GS/GSL have the large driveshaft flange and will fit just fine. As for master cylinder and proportioning valve, not sure how much difference there is, but my master was shot, so I got the GSL one, prop valve is the S one and works just fine, great brake feel. I too went with Stainless hoses.
