Grinding NOISE.... after a HARD drive...

I sort of drove my GSL-SE HARD yesterday.... (I killed a Celica GT with FART CAN)... I could hear the power steering before.... but now... I can hear the power steering PLUS grinding Noise.... It sounds like its coming from the front of the engine.... during idle it grinds then when rev it grinds just some..... but when turning or when from stop and I try to rotate the steering wheel... the NOISE just gets loud.... I hope I didn't blow an apex seal....(it idles fine).... I think it has to do with the pump and the steering gear... also I might try the belts as a cause too.... I gotta hear 3 loud noises now.... THE STEERING PUMP NOISE.... 3rd MEMBER HOWLING..... and this GRINDING NOISE..... I'll be changing my 3rd member soon...

Any Input would be good... and NO HOOD RAT POSTING PLEASE!!! this is serious business.... go HOOD RAT POST in the other thread... PLEASE thank you

Change your belts i think you're talking about the same problem i had, and changing my belt took care of it

I only had one, as soon as i replaced it, it stopped the "howling" sound... i'd describe it as a whoosh though, if that's not your problem... it couldn't hurt to do so anyway.

Also check the power steering fluid level, when it gets low,the pump starts making a grinding noise, seeing that there is air in the ATF being pumped around into the steering assembly

could be a worn brake pad rubbing against the disc at the front, or a bearing needing to be replaced. If you're hearing it from a stop or low speed turn, that would be the time either of those give you grinding noises, and are likely to appear after hard driving, as such driving can exacerbate wear on those parts

It's the power steering pump... just needs more fluid....
but I do have one more question.... I don't wanna make another thread...

How come GASOLINE is being mixed with the oil ??? My oil cooler use to leak a lot(now drops oil with stainless steel line gotta remove teflon taping on the AN connection) and the oil smelt like GASOLINE... to make my assumption correct... I sprayed the dropped oil with water and it had that rainbow color that GASOLINE makes when diluted in water.... WAZ UP With this???? is this normal for RX-7's....???

As many of the guys on here will tell you I'm hardly an expert; just talkative

I'm not @ my Northridge address right now - I returned to Canada the day before the war after getting into 3 fights in Hollywood for being a foreigner in the week before the shooting started. I'll be back in Northridge next month though, air travel and Patriot Act permitting...
