grinding noise

my rear end makes a grinding noise on my 85 gsl. im not sure what it could be, but i hear it while coming to a stop. not sure if its the brakes, but i think i can hear it during normal driving, but im having a hard time hearing over my exhaust. its not a constant level, but when i can hear it, it goes "r-rrr-rrrr-rrrrrr-rrrrrrr-rrrrrrrrrr" getting longer as i come to a stop. i would have searched for an answer, but yknow how many results you get for "grinding noise"?

likely answer?
