Greatest day EVER

Those that have been following some of my treads know i have been having problems with getting my newly rebuilt motor started ad running. Well after 2 or 3 weeks of not doining anything but removing the starter and double checking the timing which it was out of. I put the new starter on it today. Little oil in the carb time to check the compression. Holy **** its reading normal. Check the rear hell yea. Clean the plugs smack those bad boys back in and bang bang couple of backfires and it has life. still wont idle but will start. Thinking about rebuilding the mikini and try that. Also I still got put the exhuast from my 80 on this 1. Will only stay running if i keep pressing the the gas at a nice pace. I wish i knew how to post video i would but o well. Thanks for all your help every one once i get the idle and exhuast taken care of i ll see how it does.

Great news Nick, those plugs are probably fouled mate, and you might try fine tuning the timing.

It's possible that the timing is off. When you put the dist in did you make sure that the e-shaft
keyway was facing towards the exhaust manifold and that the one of the pulley bolts was at 12 O'clock?

With the timing my engine builder mainly does 2nd and 3rd gen when he put the pulley back on the hub he put it back on wrong. I checked the timing using the flywheel. Plugs are band new along with the other 2 sets i have been using to try and get this thing started. There was a minor set back. LOL much like JONJON when he was working on getting his car started with the mikuni I also had a small fire. It ok I got an extra engine harness I will be putting on then i do the exthust. I need to get the harness down to just the must haves but I ll wory about that after i get it running and driving.

Well I don't know about the rest of the 'old guys', but I was refering to the car. Apparently my post was delayed and the other ones snuck in there before mine.

Mikunis are simple to tear down and clean. There really isn't much to rebuilding them other than changing a few gaskets. The AP is the most work. Be gentle with the mix screws, turn them down too hard and you can snap off the tips of the needles.

I know I stepped into that one. It's been so long since I got laid the last time, I've forgotten what it is.

What do you think should I rebuild the carb myself 70 shipped for everthing I would need or should i send it to wolf creek they want $200 to do the rebuild. I have never done a carb rebuild but it seams easy enough.

Rebuild kit is 25, if you want to spend money and send it out, I'll do it for 100 plus return shipping. Any parts not included in the kit will be extra and I will swap out your pilot jets for 52.5/57.5s. The 60s are a bit big for a stock port. I have a spare kit on hand too.

I say do it yourself, and if you mess it up. Then send it to the people.

Thats how I learned, I tried to rebuild the ol 2 barrel Holley carb off my pinto. 20 bucks for the kit at Autozone. It all went well, then I dropped it and bent the throttle shaft. DUH!! Then it cost me a 100 for a rebuilt one by the shop down the road.

Just get a nice work table, clean bench area, card table, etc etc,
lay down some paper (not newspaper its too busy) Get white butchershop paper, I went to the meat counter at the local supermarket and got it for free!! That way you can see all the parts laid out, and watch for those pesky ***** if the roll off, and you can write and label it too!!

Thats what I do now, and it works all the time. That was was tought to me by a very old man. Worked for him, works for me, and will work for you!
