Great day at the Junk Yard

Well it was HOT but well worth my time and a little sunburn. I have never removed a dash before........I did it today in just over an hour. It's deffinately not as bad as people make it out to be.

Things I bought from the yard.

1 Set of tail lights off of an 85 $20.00 total
1 uncracked stereo surround for an 85 s model $6
1 rear view mirror assembly off of an 85 gslse $5
1 GRAY dash in very good condition including glove box and plastics on bottom half of dash $25.00
1 large laceration to right index finger that occured during dash removal.......priceless!

I'm just stoked to have an entire gray interior sitting in my garage now so if I end up buying a car with burgandy or brown I can swap it!

There was a nice blue Miata there as well but someone already grabbed the diff

Lucky. My local junkyard doesn't even have an RX-7 period. No FB's, FC's, and there aren't even any FD's around my area.

Yeah, the So Cali yards usually have a few sevens. I saw about 2 fb's, 1 sa and a few second gens today at the one yard. About 5 years ago there were tons of these cars at the yards, now a days they are few and far between. I may go for a few times and not find one fb, then one day there's 4 (usually all of the good stuff is gone). Most of the sevens have either gone through the crusher, or have been picked up by an enthusiast. I know they must be hard to find in the midwest because people over there pay ridiculous prices for this stuff on ebay.

I'm lucky i have 3 RX-7 wreckers with in 20 minutes of where I live. I get the best parts, I got original SA front seats(The ones in mine were ripped to shreds and the drivers seat was broken)And good cheap body parts and accessories. And what 1 does not have the others have.

I would be cool if some junkyards would keep a database of people to call everytime they get a specific car, specially as unusual as ours. haha.. sorry, i just woke up.

Minnesota junkyards suck for 7's. You have to get there as soon as they come in, otherwise some place called RX7 Heaven comes in and rapes the junkyards for cars so they can sell parts for outrageous prices.

Good deal!! I switched my dash out not to long ago.. The old one looked like hell.. The new one was flawless. But it's now crack from the old of last winter. I'm not too worried because I a cover in the garage. Dashes are a b!tch to remove and replace but when the job is done you can't beat it!!

Nothing like a good score at a wrecking yard to make a Saturday feel right. Spent many a happy hour scrounging around junkyards. Forgot all about them until my kids started driving/wrecking/repairing their cars a few years ago. Some things never change - like the thrill of finding the right interior, in the right year, and needing just a few odds and ends.

Yeah, I'm glad I decided to go to the yard that day I got so burnt out on going and not finding anything that I stopped going for awhile. If your really serious about finding something good, you really need to go at least once a week.

i went to the junk yard a few days back and everyone that worked theire speaks to me like im a dumbass...and they wont allow people to go look through cars...you have to ask for a specific part...pay for it...THEN you can go get that part..and that part only and leave.

its so bull ****...and when i ask for a specific part like (rear rotor housing) they look at me like im asking for the boom arm to a ******* space ship . then say something like "you mean the tranny?" and im like "NO...REAR ...got that part? ..ROTOR...got it? ok heres a big word HOUSING." ....then he goes..."nope all out"

YEAY FOR YOU!!! Im planning on a trip to the 'ol AAA junkyard in Spokane, Washington here pretty soon. They always have 3 or 4 fb's along with 1 or 2 fc's. Plus, when im done picking out what i want, i go to the place to pay, and he goes "how much is it worth to ya?" God knows i wont tell him what its really worth...
