Guys I did it,

I took my car (12a with slight mods) to the track for the first time. It's was a practice run a week before the race. I'm seriously the underdog since in my class I get to run with anything above 2.0 liters and turbos are allowed. I only have at most 150hp. Also my front suspension consists on some cheap cut high performance coils out of an integra, and cut stock coils on the rear. Cheap *** gabriel shocks up front and monroe on the back. It's sad yeap I know...

I'm on a serious budget here, hopefully I'll get someone to sponsor a set of toyos ra1 or some toyo f08. My current tires are 300treadwear and they won't hook up for crap. Car has serious understeering problems because of it. I got no LSD, no nothing...I managed to tune the car somehow by removing the rear sway bar, but I guess it was just too much.

Still the car is a sad attempt to enter the race, and guess what? I'm freaking going. I didn't spin a single time and managed to make some porshe owners pretty mad when a 911 turbo spun right next to me...freaking scary but fun at the same time...trying to show off ....that will teach him.

A couple of folks took some pictures of the car and I even got to be on TV for a local channel.

Anyhow I hope you guys wish me luck for the upcoming weekend which will be my first race ever.

Thanks guys and I'll try to leave the first gen's name on top of the list.

Good luck buddy! What year is your car? www.classicgarage.com has cheap Koni strut inserts for the 79-80 and 81-85 12A powered cars, if you're interested. The 79-80 struts are 22.99 each and the 81-85 are about 30.00 each. Once again, good luck!

Totally positive. Even with the odd suspension, the seat time in racing traffic will benefit you greatly.

Congrats on a perfect no-spin race!

What track?

agreed. you have to take them off the car to adjust them but they will be far better then what you have now. good luck. you might want to try the airpump supercharger mod.

hey thanks guys,

it's an 85 12a, I live outside the US so I will not be able to have the shocks by this weekend (race). Anyhow my car is overheating badly so I have to fix that before the actual race. I kind of believe the fact I'm spinning that engine at 7500rpms makes the impellers in the w. pump cavitate the water circulating thru it. I'll see what I do about it.

the track is very difficult, it has two nasty 180 turns and a bunch on high speed turns, I'm learning so I'm kind of taking my time. Most pros tell me to keep up on my own pace and somehow I'm not doing too bad. In fact I just learned that I will be competing in the lower class 0-2.4L (I read the rules wrong) so I might get to open up a can of whoop *** on some hondas and toyotas, although those cars with the IRS can still out corner a first gen I have RWD and if driven properly it can be very very quick and the funny thing is that since most cars are FWD my driving style can throw them off. I take the turns completely different than those cars. Let's see what happens.

My secret weapon will be the stage III mindtrain header which will get installed on Wednesday that should free up about 10 more HPs....

Again thanks guys... I'll share all the details with you guys as if you where there...

First gens rule!

it was a sticky water pump, it's been replaced
windows and window motors have been eliminated + some other miscellaneous items, total weight savings about 40lbs less.
