Got rear ended this morning!!!
Sitting at a stoplight and some idiot couldn't get to her brakes quick enough. Clipped the left rear bumper of my 7. Luckily it looks like the bumper did it's job and I don't think it bent any sheet metal. Just possibly the bumper mounts. Had a police report done up and I will be taking it to my local body shop to get an estimate...

That sucks, are you OK?

Yours doesn't look too bad. Make sure they use real Mazda parts if they're available. I've used aftermarket parts that were OK and some were just unusable.

if the other guy's insurance is State Farm, they will try to total your car out for $500. Then Progessive Insurance in another rear ender gave me $500 to fix the same kind of damage as the first

I'm OK, just calming down from being so ticked off.
Just got back from getting an estimate. Just under $500. He said the hardest part is going to be fixing the black moulding on the bumper so that it still looks "aged" and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Also said he'll try to photo match the paint and blend it real good.
I got lucky and saw that she was coming up on me pretty quick, so I was able to drop the clutch and pull to the right trying to get out of her way. She darted left and the headlight of her dodge neon clipped my bumper. Shattered her headlight.
Her insurance is "Farmington Casualty Co". So I'm a little worried that I've never heard of them... But, I have insurance through American Collectors, and I think they would fight the battle of them trying to total it out because if it gets totaled, I automatically get a check for $10,500.

Turns out the girl that hit me ended up getting 2 tickets from the state trooper and she was only driving on a learners permit. No license and no licensed driver in the car with her... Sounds like she's in some trouble now.

That sucks though, I hate irresponsible drivers. I'm always ultra-sensitive when driving the 7 because I know it's lower to the ground and doesn't have a third brake light so people glance over it and don't notice the brake lights are on. You sound like you have a similar mentality, and now you definitely will, of driving for other people on the road so that you don't personally get hurt or hit. I hope the shop can work it out and that the insurance thing gets straightened out. And she better not get her license for a while, because that's just not ok.

Mine was rear ended in '90 or '91. It was fixed, but still suffers from the effects. They used quite a bit of bondo and every couple of years it bubbles up in several areas and has to be re-done. Sort of same situation - no license, no insurance. I recovered through uninsured, but they didn't total the car was. Now it has such sentimental value though, that I can't see switching to a "shell".

Yup, whenever I drive my 7 I'm always on the lookout for drivers not paying attention. I follow the same mentality that I use when riding my motorcycle... "Drive like they're trying to hit you"
Got a call from their insurance company today... They are sending an adjuster to review the damage and give their own estimate.

my moron neighbor hit the back of my rx-7 in the parking lot. No license. Took him to small claims court after I offerred to forget about it for $100. So I won in small claims, then came the issue of collection. He had two friends attack me. It is on you tube. The local **** head police said there wasn't enough to press charges. I did the motion to compel to enforce the small claims ruling. He ignored that. So I did the motion for contempt. Finally got him served, and the judge told him that he could go to jail for contempt.
All said and done, he hit me on october 2008, small claims court was july 2009, motion to compel was march 2010, motion for contempt was october 2010, garnish his wages was january 1011. The land lord sued him for non payment of rent in march 2011.
In short, damages and court costs were +$800. Initially, I just wanted the $100 as a token. Oh, after the contempt of court hearing, he and two friends were parked behind my car outside the courthouse. Good thing I hired a policeman in full uniform with a gun for $80.
