I set up that direct fire on my 13B, but it's carby style. Yes you can do it on an SE too.

The 2nd gens all use direct fire if I'm not mistaken.
And of course all the 2nd gens are EGI 13B's like our -SE's.

Right, but the SE only has single Leading fire through the cap as stock. The two EGIs are similar, and I'm sure direct fire will improve the SE's performace, if done correctly

Where are the bumper pics?
I'm probably going to do a direct fire on my SE. I got a leading coil out of a second gen.

People are saying that it doesn't have enough resistance in the coil, but there is a site, where someone has done it and hasn't posted any probs. I'm going to try and e-mail the guy and see if he has had any probs with it (it's a cheaper way to go).

here's the link

Look under direct fire.

That guy is running at 25* total advance. I hope he doesn't break his side fire plugs.

I'm running direct fire on an 85 -SE with no problems what so ever.

I'm even thinking of putting the MSD 6A I've got lying around that WAS for direct fire on the leading on my trailing coil. Can't hurt, eh?

Yeah, but from what a lot of people say, it's not really gonna help either. As I recall it had to do with the MSD having a short spark duration, whereas rotaries benifit from a longer lasting spark.

Right. Do you plan on doing most of your driving below 3 grand or 1500 or wherever the MSD decides to stop all the multisparks on the rotary's ignition characteristics and shift to single spark mode? Its on trailing, but still. Do you need to pass emissions? Trailing is a small but still necessary part of your ignition.

I could only recommend that you use your MSD that way if you are going to send me your ignitor

well the silly little box is sitting in my engine bay doing nothing, so I figured doing something with it would be a good idea

and for general driving around town I do tend to keep around 3krpm, while cruising (that's 72mph). any ANY fuel economy I can get will help me. And even though the multisparks can't last above 3krpm, the spark (albeit a short one) would be slightly hotter, and it wouldn't have the drawback of being shared between two coils in the case of the Paul Yaw direct fire. I don't believe it's going to help a whole lot, but when you get 19MPG highway, every MPG helps. Oh well, it's something to play around with this winter. So, 5 sparks per rotor per combustion cycle, under 3000rpm. Heh. Can't hurt, and I have nothing else to do with the stupid MSD box.
