Got a line on a glass moon roof, anyone need/want it.

Someone at my work is selling a glass moon roof for our first gen, does anyone need or want one for $75 + shipping. If your seriously interested I'll go and check it out and report the condition to you. BTW I have a GS so I have no need for it. Let me know ASAP befor someone else gets it.

The ad listing didn't state the specific year, just '81 - '85 glass moon roof.

Nah, subgraphic you can go and have it. I just wanted to make sure the person who was interested knew what year it came off of. I have other priorities with my car before I pick up a moon roof.

Cool- thanks error... I actually have better things to spend my money on as well, but I have a baseball size dent in my roof that I cant stand to look at anymore...
I hope this thing is in good condition.

Not a problem.

Uh oh... I hate to show my ignorance here, but I have a GS as well, the roof vents or I can unlatch it and pull it off. Is this called a moon roof ? I ask because I have seen pics of a glass roof with the tabs in the front like mine, and I also have seen pics for a glass piece that looks kind of like a aftermarket sunroof, that I believe came from the factory. I might not need what this guy is selling. can anyone help clear this up?

Moon roof = glass top.
Sunroof = metal top.

Both my '83 GSL and '85 GSL-SE have sunroofs. You can either open them by hand (tilting them open by turning a wheel) or remove them completely (little tabs in front to hold it in place).

cool- thanks for the info.
So, there are no glass sunroofs? I could have sworn I have seen a glass sunroof before, with the tabs and that works by turing the wheel. I thought this is what he was selling. If it isnt, sorry, but I dont need it.

There seems to be some confusion as to the differences between the sunroofs/moonroofs. As I understand it, the '79 models have a different lifting mechanism than the '80 and newer models. I have an '80 and the sunroof looks identical to the later ones. That is, it has the **** that rotates to raise it. Please correct me if I'm wrong. -WG

The '79 models had a single front tab, whereas the later ones have dual front tabs for greater stability when open

If you have a GS with a moon roof it most likely is after market or maybe you have the wrong badges on your car. Kinda hard for me to visualize what your talking about subgraphic. They're two different "removable panels" for '80 and later 1st gens, a metal panel and a glass panel. I think the glass was an option on the GSL but stock on the GSL-SE.

My GSL-SE came with both, but I suspect that was a Canadian dealer thing (sort of like the standard headlight washers)

I've drooled over several for-sale ads that included the words, "both roofs mint condition", so I'll bet that the US dealers were playing that game too.

Yes, that is what he's selling. One question though, how did you get a GS with removable roof? Is it a Limited Edition?

ok- Great.
You know, I just got the car 2 weeks ago and all the paperwork says GS, but the actual car dosent have the rear badge on it. It might very well a GSL. I might have to do some digging to find out when I get home.
