im interested in this 79 with 48,000 miles and no rust. it has been in storage for at least 18 years. only problem is the reason it was put to rest was because of a bad motor . it needs a new paint job as well .
what would you guys think that something like this would be worth >? the car has an automatic too ...

Verifying that it is an original 48k first. Depends on what the condition of the body besides needing paint, and the interior also.
Non-running 7's even an Sa don't command a big price. I'd offer them $300-$500 tops I guess.
It all depends on if you really like it though and if you have an engine to put in. The trans is secondary, you could change it out to a M/T but it would probably be worth more original if you restored. The problem with an automatic sitting that long is what does the valve body look like and will the trans survive?

An easy way to tell if they are 48K original miles is to check the rubber on the pedals since they don't see much sunlight shouldn't have as much sun damage as other components inside. And since almost no one ever thinks to replace pedal pads
thank you guys . just what i was thinking ! i hope the guy dosent get offended . he has yet to send me pictures.
didnt even think of the pedals , it isnt too far from me so if i did make a trip out there it wouldnt be too much time wasted .
thanks again , i have my fingers crossed

yeah . the guy wants 1000 obo , i havent seen many bodies move on the forum . my main concern is that the gas tank and brakes might need some attention. as well as what rx7doctor said about the tranny. i hope that i dont offend the guy when i tell him what it is worth . i at least want to see pictures of it though .
i bought a non running 81 for 200 a couple months ago and it looks pretty good . no bin rust at all .

Make the guy an offer, leave him your ph number and let him sit on it till winter approaches, then follow up - he may change his tune if he has to look at it all winter. Can't imagine him getting drowned in offers

This car is really sweet, I would try to grab it for under $500 if you can, but I could see it going for as much as $1000 in this condition. I have an engine and other parts for this car, might consider driving to Illinois for a car in this condition! Let me know how it goes.
I did a color change for another member from the same color scheme as this one to black. His dash was in mint conditon with the speaker provision.
Unless you are wanting to keep it 100% original you could always use the 81-83 dash.

the guy says the interior has leather , i doubt that . but i havent seen it yet so i cant tell yet . i would think so . the car seems to be pretty unmolested. my wife wants it . so all that is left it to see the car in person and work something out with the guy .
... hey doc, how did the interior look that you swaped out ? was the dash good ?

the next day his scedual is free is going to somewhere near the 19th , so nothing till then guys sorry. on the plus side my wife is trying to figure out what she wants to put on the plates lol .
The dash can be repaired. For example http://www.justdashes.com/Index.htm
It is "worth" to you, whatever you are willing to pay. That is potentially a very nice car, even if too long in storage. You will not find many in such condition with all Parts intact. Too many are neglected, molested, and suffer from shadetree hacking, low-quality repainting, and attrition of accessories, trim and other components.
Consider what purpose you want this car for. If you do not value the authenticity, and would replace the dash, radio, wheels, etc., etc. it may be better to leave for another who does. Some people would readily pay $2,000 for that car. I hope the owner is judicious who he sells to.

Thats a very nice find, and theres always the chance the engine isnt actually blown, just in need of some rotary specific attention.
Im not usually a big fan of the SA's,but thats a very clean car for the age,and I like the color scemes (no plaid fabric or neon orange paint, ala' 1970's)
My 78 GLC only had a drivers side mirror too,its just an old school thing on cheaper cars.I look at pedal pad conditions too,its a pretty reliable indicator, especially the lower right corner of the brake pedal.Judging by the interior condition,Id say thats definately a low milage car.
If your not looking to do a factory true resto, then it'd be a good idea to make a few discreet upgrades in the name of safety/reliability,since your gonna need to go through the whole car anyways.Pitch the wedge front calipers for the later slider types.Swap out the points and distributor for an 81-85 model.Switch to an internal regulated alternator. For a clean, but regularly driven classic, these are good update mods to make,.Finding replacement parts for 70's import cars is getting tougher and tougher.....near impossible for old school rotaries,of which the SA's are soon to be considered.
