Got $400, anything worth buying for speed?

I got like $400 bucks I was going to buy an amp and sub with for the miata. Well people are breaking into cars too much right now so I'm putting it off. I figured I may be able to get something for the RX7 to increase it's go fast fun.

The car only has a K/N filter(square on stock box) and a Bonez Cat Converter. Think a header or exhaust is worth the money? Any idea which are legal in California?

What would you get?

For a first step with the gsl-se I would add a good header. When the existing exhaust wears out then have a look at what is legal in California, talk to your local muffler shop and compare there quote with whats on the net. But remember to get good qiuality as the rotary exhaust runs hot.

Racing beat header.
or a very good set of tires.

then maybe a cat back system.
or ignition upgrade.
or Better brake pads.

Just my $.02

a header is definatly not going to be legal in cali.. i have one, and now need to figure out what i am going to do for smog time... (i also have the full exhaust though).

i am probably going to have a custom cat pipe made. and then just pay someone off for visuals
