gonna start tinkering soon had a few questions WARNING long post
so ive been doing lots and lots of reading over this summer trying to get a good idea of what i should and shouldnt do with the gf car, first thing we are going to tackle this winter is spark (its a 84 SE just for future reference) and ive been weighing the options of a MSD 6A or a DLIDFIS set up. I like the MSD for fact that it would be clean, simple, and straight forward and i havent read about anything that says i shouldnt. On the other hand the DLIDFIS set up uses GM ignitors which take place of the crappy stock J109s that cost about as much a good liver on the black market, but its a cluttered set up in which you need 3 coils and some way to place the three ignitors and extra wiring. Does the MSD get rid of the J109s so to speak? thats pretty much the deciding factor as they will both cost about the same for me, also with the MSD box i could just run off the two leading spark plugs and forget about the trailing as ive read the trailing only do about 10% of the work. i just want to get all of this cleared up before i start in one direction and i should have gone in the other.
thanks

and another thing i forgot to ask about is if i did go with the MSD 6A could i use a FC coil for the leading plugs then use a MSD blaster2 to run to the dizzy in place of the leading socket and run the trailing plugs off the distributor?
its a horrible picture i know but i hope it gets the point across and both coils will be off of the MSD box just fyi

There is no horsepower benefit to running trailing. People have dyno'ed with and without trailing, one right after another (with proper cooldown time of course), and saw no change in power.
I would go with the 6AL if you go with MSD, for the rev limit function. I have MSD coils run off of the stock dizzy and ignitors and noticed that it was much easier to start the car (absolutely no changes anywhere else when i wired in the MSD Blaster 2's).
Lots of people run the DLIDFIS and love it. I just had the MSD's from my old FB (the PO had them installed), so I wired them in.

i figured the 6A because the ecu has the rev limiter even though the soft touch ignition rev limiter is alot easier on the engine
im just trying to weigh the pros and cons of both set ups but i like the simplicity of the MSD system but the DLIDFIS system seems to be the cats meow

Apollo's is the one. damn good food! i'm thinking about taking a trip back up there this summer. if you need "local" help with your car, Nick at Underground Performance (in Anchorage, right across from the Merril field tower) is real good with them. ( www.undergroundperformance.us )
thanks for the input
