Going to look at an rx7 tomorrow..
I go to look at this car first thing tomorrow morning:
85 (unknown engine/model as of yet) ($2000/bo)
I asked the person:
Q: Can I see a bone cold start?
A: Sure, I'll fire it up cold. The car really doesn't smoke all that much...at least not that I've seen. I'm told this happened much more with the earlier year models.
Q: mileage?
The car has got 125,000 miles on it, but I've got a buddy with one of these cars that's run for over 300k miles. So, as long as it's maintained it should last you a long time.
Q: How clean is the engine compartment?
I am the second owner of this car. The first guy who maintained it was absolutely meticulas with it. You could eat off that engine. He never missed an oil change and tuned it up often.
Q: Is this car registered and smogged?
The car is not currently register or smogged, but I'll take care of that before you pick it up if you chose to buy it.
Q: Any oil leaks?
There are no oil leaks on the car.
Q: Last tune up and brake job?
A: I have never done a break job or a tune up on this car as I have only had it for about 6 months. Both a brake job and tune up were done just before I got it.
I am glad to hear you take such good care of your cars because this thing really is like my baby. I love it. Honestly, I hate to get rid of it. It runs great, and is just a blast to drive, but I'm moving out of state and can't take it with me.

Looks nice. I'm thinking its either an S or a GS model.
If its as nice as the pictures you could possibly have a very nice steal if you got it a little cheaper.
How could he have it for six months and not have it registered? I'm assuming he was driving it illegally. Could be shady.

ya i just wanted to know if it seems worth it so far.
i cant see enough of the interior.
ahh the guy has good communication skills, it isnt some young kid. I wouldnt buy it unless it is registered and smogged.
Will prob come in $200-$300 low and see what he says.. that is, if i like it.
i was kinda wanting a 13b bad... but if this is as clean as he says, then ill prob take it even tho its prob a 12A. i just think 30hp is a lot of difference..
my jetta turbo is chipped and is "rated" at 215hp/242tq". This will prob be very slow compared to it. But im not buying this for a race car. im buying it cuz its classic and seems like a lot of fun to drive.

only $1300?? you serious? that looks like a pretty nice specimen to me.. then maybe i wont go $1800 like i was thinking.. ill have to leave my money at home so i dont make a dumb mistake. It would prob take him a few days to register and smog it too, before i pay.
im bringing my camera, hopefully he lets me take more pics.. of interior and engine compartment.
oh damn, ur in SF too.. so you know bay area pricings... is it the milage which makes it not worth $1700-1800? Cuz the condition sure doesnt look crappy.

If the car is as nice as it appears to be, anything under 2K is a good deal. Even $2500 would not be too much, in my opinion.
It is a 12a model, the wheels give that much away, as they won't fit on the GSL-SE. Look it over real good for any signs of rust, as that could be the deal killer.
Light smoke on a true cold start would not be anything to worry about, unless it takes more than a minute or 2 to clear up.
The guy is right about the engines lasting, when properly maintained. The 12a's have been known to go 250-300K, before they start using excessive amounts of oil. This is even more common when they have not been driven excessively hard.

Looks like an S model, maybe a lower end GS. In some ways that's good too, less to break later on. It does look pretty clean.
No sunroof is a big giveaway.
2K, if the car runs perfectly and has no issues at all then maybe. I would probably offer no more than 1500-1700 to be honest. If the car looks like it just came off the showroom then I suppose 2K isn't too bad.
Your choice though. If the car runs and drives as well as the guy describes it then you will be happy with it even for 2k.

im not buying this one.. needs some work. the car would barely rev over 4k.. only when i opened up the secondaries it just made it to 5k rpm after like 20 seconds.. clogged cat most likely. or just a poorly taken car of engine.. remember he said no oil leaks? nice enough guy.. but im sending him an email in a few mins telling him im not gonna take it. not even for $1200.. just too many issues.

man, this websites been broke for me most of the day.
i forgot to mention.. the cars door weatherstripping was hella cracked too.
also, i floored it on a freeway ramp.. and it missed once and bucked.. but then it was ok. the gas peddle seemed really heavy to push.. maybe i just wasnt used to it.
