over this idle problem! it has to be a vaccum leak but i can not find where! OMFG!! 2 days ago i made a block off plate for my acv out of 1/8" thick aluminum. sealed it up REAL good and let it sit since then. i cranked it up today and it's a little better and holds it's idle but its still rough as hell! this is making me go CRAZY!!! could it possibly be that dumb piece that used to go to the cats? i can see it has a block off plate but maybe it got burned thru??? i've had this car for like 8 months and when i got it the idle was totally fine and the air pump had already been removed! any help is appreciated!

 

cats may be clogged! check for a hole in the vaccum hose that goes from intake manifold to air box!

 

theres a hose that goes from the top pass side of the carb down to something on the lower manifold , I forget its technical name, but if this hose is cracked, it wont idle for ****... Mazdatrix has a writeup about it on there site.

 

ok, now i'm hearing this rediculously loud "whirrr" sound; like air is coming out of somewhere pretty bad. i hear this while i'm INSIDE the car. when i get out i can hear it too and really well when i look under the car. :-/ i dunno if this is an exhaust leak or my idle prob. better put, it sounds like your letting air out of a tire. i'm gonna check on that mazdatrix write up; thank you!
