first off i need to know what exactly other than pulling the smog pump off of the car what else is involved in getting rid of the emmisions from the car it aslo seems to me that buying an ideler pully and making a bracket would get rid of the overall problem easily and aid in the wrong belt problem with making all belts last alot longer at the same time

My Yoohoo belt snapped on me on the freeway the other day... luckily my Alt. belt was still in one piece, I did have to replace it cause it showed tear on it.

I did this yoohoo belt mod about 3 years ago, basically installed it like a bicycle chain when it falls off from being too loose. On one of my drives back from oregon coast (first long drive with yoohoo belt) the belt caused my water pump pully to completely shear away from the bolts. So i had 2 seperate pieces from 1 water pump pully. When i drive i always check guages and noticed my water temp climbing so i shut her down and coasted to an over pass where i had a great friend from Oak harbor remove a waterpump pully from another 7 of mine and drive 2 hours with my tool box to meet me and we replaced the pully and melted the belt with starting fluid and fire on the side of I-5. I wouldnt reccomend this mod but if it works for others then good for them. I bought a dual alt pully from somone in the 2nd gen section who makes them it was like 20 bucks shipped.

AFAIK the pineapple racing belt wasn't around then? I may be wrong. They do have a better fitting belt, and I have ran mine for almost 2 years now with no problems

Glad to hear you got it working. I am paranoid and look at gauges way too often. So did you light the belt on fire to destroy it?

Yup sprayed it with starting fluid and lit it on fire. I am not sure why it caused the pully to shear in two, maybe to much tension, either way IMO its hokey pokey to install a belt in that manner, belts should be taught with a tensioner of some sort no by force.

i have the pineapple racingbelt on mine. it turned over on me. but sat itself that way and now has no twist in it.

will using the back/side of the belt cause any ill effects, like too much stress on either one of the pulleys? it looks ok. i tested the tension/play in the free side if the belt. it doesnt feel too tight.

anyway

thanks,
Nick

I've always used the 3L220 on mine, can't remember if I got it from AutoZone or NAPA. I never had one wear out and start slipping, but I was always messing with the car too much and would cut it off a put a new one on each time. I think the longest I had one belt on there was 2 years.

The way I got them on was to put it all the way on the crank pulley. Then get it started by hand on the water pump and bump the engine over with the starter to pull it on the rest of the way.

A buddy of mine ended up buying a 3L225 (22.5 inches instead of 22) because they didnt have a 3L220. It fit a tiny bit loose but was really easy to install and belts never squeeled. I have the dual alt pulley and it bugs the crap out of me to not be able to have 2 alt belts the same size. One is always loos and the other a bit tight.

I believe the safest solution seems to be to use a gutted air pump or a tensioner of some sorts with the stock belt. What is the airpump, like 5 lbs? Not even probably.

I like the Gilmer pulley kit as well.

i bought a dual belt pulley from respeed and it doesnt work... the inner pulley is fine and the belt is directly in line like the stock one was. the outer(closest to fan) isnt out far enough and is misalligned. it turns the belt after a few days and throws it off. respeed says its a problem with my car. i say its a problem with the pulley. all of the other pullys i see have more of a gap in between the 2 grooves than mine does and are perfectly in line on both belts. so i feel like it was made improperly or something... i might try this yahoo belt yall are talking about and see what happens

I would think you could (while installed) turn the belt over and turn the pulley by hand to get it to be on correct. Maybe a friend to help would be worthwhile also. I would think that the belt would act as if it were smaller without it lining up in the groove correctly. Thats my take on it.
