Getting new exhaust--need advice!

I am ready for a new exhaust this weekend... but here's what I need to know.

Rotary Performance in Garland, TX said that it's illegal for them to remove the cat (without putting another one back on.) I don't plan on taking my car to RP anyway, but I was wondering:

1. I would assume that it's "illegal" for most muffler/exhaust shops to remove it and not put a new one on, but do most of them do it anyway?

2. I'm not the type of person that wants to get an exhaust system that will squeeze every single bit of HP out of my rotary so a good performance muffler (and maybe a pre-silencer) with no cat is what I'm looking at. Do most muffler shops sell decent ones at a good price?

3. a 2-part question... a. will a pre-silencer make that much of a difference in how loud/not-as-loud it is? B. Will a pre-silencer make any difference in HP/Performance?

Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

i would take it off yourself (the whole exhaust system) i know it will be loud but do that right before you take it to get the mufflers put on. anotherwords after you have your exhaust system parts. and yes the presilencer will help reduce the sound but the horsepower i do'nt know it probably depends on the brand for that and the Muffler.

I guess I'll have to call around and ask.... I really don't feel like taking the SOB off myself... I'll do damn near anything else, but with the way it's rigged on there now, I'd rather them hack the damn thing off.
It wasn't built right the last time RP did it (but I didn't own it then)

RB is the only way to go. Get their full system and then bolt it on yourself.
