Also would like to know what to change as far as fluids, spark plugs, oil (oil looks clean), all reddy did fuil filter and air filter. Why is every one changing out therefuil pumps? Also ther is oil collcting wher the filler tube for oil meets the block. My 83gsl-se did the same thing or had the same problem can anyone give me some advise. O ya both seem to have strong mortors. Hope to get some help thanks everyone.

I wish my FSM wasn't in the garage or I'd check it for you.

I, myself, would do all of it if you haven't yet.

all reddy did fuil filter and air filter. Why is every one changing out therefuil pumps?
The stock fuel pumps are supposedly a little low output even for the stock set-up. They tend to be unable to supply enough volume at high rpm/load. I say supposedly, because I am relying on what others on here have said and not my own experience.

Also ther is oil collcting wher the filler tube for oil meets the block.
I can't say I know what that means, but I know it ain't good.

My 83gsl-se did the same thing or had the same problem can anyone give me some advise. O ya both seem to have strong mortors. Hope to get some help thanks everyone.

Yup. I am anyway . I just used DOT 3 brake fluid cause I didnt have anything else, and it was a brand new bottle. The same stuff I put in my master cylinder actually. I dont see/havent seen anything wrong with it.
Also ther is oil collcting wher the filler tube for oil meets the block.
Is it loose? Its only a press fit into the block, so if its loose, it will leak a little. I use a piece of 2x4 and a hammer to set it in when it comes loose everynow and then .
Also would like to know what to change as far as fluids, spark plugs, oil (oil looks clean), all reddy did fuil filter and air filter.
You already said you did some of these, but Im just gonna list what comes to mind...

Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
Distributor Cap
Distributor Rotor
Engine Oil
Tranny Oil
Rear End Oil
Tire Pressure

Hope that helps .

And some people think that rotaries are strange alien creatures from another planet or something. Take a look at this list and point out anything that is rotary specific.

Dot 3 fluid is fine in the master cylinder.

The fuel pump is also fine for a stock setup. I had some exhaust and a k&n filter on mine and the stock pump still was fine. If you do more than that, then I would probably replace the pump.

They are old and get weak over time. Some guys experience fuel starvation at high RPM's due to a weak pump. If you have any intention to modify your carb in the future, then the first place to start is the fuel pump and regulator, IMO. You know the old saying garbage in - garbage out. If you aren't getting good fuel delivery then all the carb mods in the world won't help ya. Just my 2 cents.

Are both of the nipples on the air/oil seperator tube connected to hoses? It could be that a little oil is getting puked out in the form of mist if one of those nipples is open. Or, it could be a seeping o-ring around the dowel pin in the motor, which requires disassembly of the motor to fix. I'm running an RX4 fuel pump currently as it provides a bit more fuel at a slightly higher pressure. Plus, it's what I had on hand.

Yup. Grab it and try and wiggle it or rotate it. Mine comes loose sometimes when I try and take the oil filler cap off. The whole thing rotates rather than just the cap. Then, I just pound it back in again, lol.

First of all, Im not pulling your leg. If I was, I wouldve said so in the first post so you didnt run out and try it and then read in a later post that I was joking and have you possibly mess something up. If I (and other forum members) are joking, you can usually tell by the expressions we use while typing . So if the 2x4 and hammer doesnt work, you can always count on duct tape . As far as fluids, I personally use Castrol 20W-50 for the engine, Redline MT-90 in the tranny, and Redline 75W-90 in the rear end.

I don't think theirs an 83 GSL-SE... you probably meant 84 or 85....

use CASTROL GTX... everyone seems to like using it... and I've used it before my rotor days on bangers.

The production run could've started late '83, but it's classed as an '84

Are you sure it wasnt an 83 Limited Edition? There were no 83 GSL-SEs, but there were 83 Limited Editions (aka - LE). Did it have a fuel injected 13B engine or carbureted 12A? Only the GSL-SEs have a fuel injected 13B stock.

I don't knowe about that. I never had to check to tire pressure on my other vehicles- maybe because I never got fast enough in the corners to notice.

And 85gsl2ndtimearound, remember to put some MMO in the fuel tank.

How much of a difference did the redline oil make? I have it in my diff and transmission, but I havent driven my project car yet, so I dont know what to expect.

DOT 3 is the right stuff. Don't use the new silicon-based stuff, though.

I would guess a leaky dowel pin o-ring.... don't worry about it unless it gets really bad... to fix it you need to overhaul the entire engine with a new soft (rubber parts) seal kit.
