General Part Sources?

What companies are you finding to be your best source for "standard" replacement parts? When I was building by '72 Vette, I could rely on Summit Racing, Jegs or several other companies that would mostly always have what I needed.

Are there similar sources for RX-7 parts? For example, I need a clutch master cylinder for my '83 and Summit has a Dorman unit available. I know nothing about Dorman's quality or fit. I've bought from Mazdatrix in the past and they have a no-name unit.

Anyway, I'd appeciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

I also wanted to lend some insight to Black Dragon. They are part of a bigger company called LMC here in the Kansas City area. I will see them advertise on the show "Trucks" and "Extreme 4X4". They are a good company. I just went out there to pick up a couple of things. All the parts I got where Mazda oem. I'm not sure if I got a good deal or not though.

I actually get a few little parts directly from Mazda. They have discontinued a bunch of rare items, but they still stock an impressive amount of components. It's not cheap, but considering you're getting factory quality and a guaranteed perfect fit, the prices are quite reasonable.

Thanks for the snarky answer. I could reply with a comment about spelling and punctuation, but I won't.

There are many sources for RX-7 parts. Rather than try the hit & miss approach, I was looking for some forum input based upon personal experience. I'm happy that some others here were able to respond without being offended.

i used to work at the dealership, i basically buy everything there. when i started they had just about everything (we were talking about ordering NEW seats).

once you learn the difference between OEM and not, and you find out the parts supply chain, the dealership is tough to beat on prices.

Hey look, I tend to agree with you about questions being asked without a search. As I said before, I was just looking for some personal opinions, not just a laundry list of sources. It looks like you might be a good source of future info, so I don't want to **** you off too much! Same could be said for me. Let's just sit back and have a couple of these:

i usually call up the local advanced or autozone stores when i need something. a few times they might have to order it cause it's not something that's normally in their inventory. and usually one place will have the same part cheaper than the other. last time i bought a clutch slave and master cyl for my 84. got one from advance, the other from autozone. one was cheaper on one than the other and vise versa. and if one of them don't have it, i call other places. the only thing i haven't been able to get local, either they don't have/can't get or too expensive, than i check the internet. like my door seals for instance. got them from a1auto.com. don't really like the way they fit but they'll do for now. i'll get another set from someone else.

I haven't had any experience with autozone but I have ordered a clutch, waterpump, tierod ends, hoses, belts, motormounts, seals, distributor cap, wires, plugs, etc. from Rockauto. I have had nothing but good experiences wth them. I did this based on the recomendations of several others here on the forum. I also found that Jegs has the best selection of Energy Suspension bushings. I just ordered everything from them except swaybar items, since I'm going to be replacing them with Racing Beat items. I'm always looking for a good supplier. Please keep everyone in the loop of what you find out.

RockAuto is great for prices and selection, but they just love to send the wrong part. I've gotten wrong parts from them more than once, and so has my friend. That's only a problem if you're in a hurry, but if you've got time, their customer service is decent and they usually send the correct part on second try.

I placed an order over the week-end with Black Dragon for my "laundry list" including the clutch master cylinder, ignition components and carb rebuild kit. The Mazda dealer in Boulder closed several years ago and I "forgot" about the one on Broomfield which is only a few miles from here (duh!) I'll try them the next time that I need something.

I'll let you know how Black Dragon works out.

I've had fairly consistent good luck with Black Dragon and I've bought A LOT of things from them. Only minor, easily resolved fitment issues on some parts.
