GEICO Owners Beware

My insurance just went up to 280 a month, I'm 17 and not in school but this is the second time they've raised it without any cause.

1) I have no tickets
2) I havent been in any wrecks.

Check your bills 1st gen owners!

280 a MONTH!?!? holy moly kid. I suggest you find another insurance company. Or do the insurance under a parents name.

Every company quoted me higher than that...it's under my dads name thats why it was cheaper in the first place!

I am 20, married with a kid, and in the Marine corps...mine went up last month to 90 (from 48). By the way, I live in southern cali.. Still cheaper than a lot of others I have checked out.

Ahh... Yes... The joys of being a young male in Louisiana. Basically, buddy, we are screwed. Louisiana is notorious for insanely high insurance rates; which, in turn, causes less people to drive with out insurance; which, in turn, makes insurance payers pay more to cover the cost of uninsured accidents.

Yay for Louisiana, poor people, and insurance companies!

Hell, I can't even get my full license until I get a job that can *hopefully* cover my quoted insurance rates... I believe $5,000 a year was the rough estimate they gave me.

BTW, I'm 16 and will be on my parents insurance plan. They both have turbocharged vehicles, my father has had probably 35 speeding tickets in his life, and two or three years ago, he was in a single car accident.

This blows...

$326 for 6 mos. for 2 7's, a 1st and 2nd gen. Yea I may not be as handsome as I used to be, but I'll take the lower payments.

Mine is like $25 a month or so with State Farm. I would either go without insurance or call somebody else if I was paying 280 a month. Hell, it better be for a brand new car for that much.
After 3 months without insurance, it pays for the ticket you would get at 280/month. Here in Kentucky it would, anyways.

I never got anywhere w/G-CO they're always insainely high. My car isn't insured yet but my trucks are, and with my current insurance I pay $120 for both $97 for my 93' (full coverage) and $20 more for my 72' (liability). With G-CO it was about $1500 every 6 months. for just one of them.

I'm 19 with a drag racing ticket on file.

Why not do the classic car insurance? I read another post on here, I forget the name of the company, but the prices they quote for basic liability for the whole YEAR is less than you pay per month. All 1st gens are over 20 years old now, and considered "classics" to them....

Most classic car insurance stipulates that you can't drive the car more than x number of miles in a year. I have it on my MGB and I can't drive it more than 2500 miles in a year.

Buy a second Guage cluster, and when it comes time to re-insure...put in your old one for a couple weeks for a couple hundred miles, re-insure, swap back....

but thats not morally correct...

They've never checked how many miles I've driven...it's the "honor system". But my my guess is they would want to know the mileage if I ever filed a claim, since they took the mileage when I signed up. And then they could do the math.

To get the classic insurance you need at least 10 years of driving experience.

Please explain that. I just dont understand how a FICO score can have an impact on an insurance rate. I dont remember signing a "CREDIT AUTHORIZATION" as a requirement to get an insurance.

Even if there wasn't a driving experience requirment for classic car insurance, it would still be high. It's not the car that makes the rates insanely high; it's my age and location. How dare you blame my baby for high rates! :P

I have classic insurance that costs me about $250 per year. A great deal! And Yep, depending on the state and the company, FICO does factor in rates.
