Form the research I have done, it seems all first gens had 3.90:1's. All second gens have 4.10:1's except GTU s models that had 4.30:1's. You may have a set of second gen 4.10's. The second gen rear gears are not interchangable with gen 1's - gen 1's have 7" ring gear and 2nd gen's have 8" ring gears.
The 84-85 models do have larger axles, but you can use the side gears as needed to swap 3rd members.
I have been told that the old rear-drive 626's had a 3.63 gear that will work in a 1st gen diff, and a diesel 81-83 pickup (or a Ford Courier) has a 3.31 gear that will work. Can anyone confirm this for me? I am looking for a higher gear, as my 1st gen car has a 302 Ford in it, and I don't need a 3.90 gear.
