Well there was 2 different models in '84 with limited slip rear ends. The GSL and the GSL-SE.
RX-7 12A '84 3.9
GSL-SE '84 4.077 thru 11/83
GSL-SE '84-5 4.083 12/84 up

It depends alot on how hard you are on it, and how sticky your tires are. If you plan on drag racing it alot, you might consider other alternatives. Thought, I do know of several on the board with a lot more power, and about that much torque that are running the stock rear end, they've probably broken a few, are easy on launching, and aren't using slicks.
It is pretty strong, for a 7" ring gear.

thanks,, now how about 3ed member swaping like say with a B2600 truck,, oh and this is a straight axle rear , the manual shows an irs ,but the manual is also an 86 did they swap them over in 86,i guess realy the question is will the LSD carrier swap from the RX7 to any other mazda's , like the early rear wheel drive 626's or B2600's
