Gear **** stuck. How can I......

Actually, it's more than stuck, I super glued it a long time ago because it came seriously loose. The only problem when I super glued it, is that I used a bit too much and by the time I was spinning the **** back on, the glue immediately seized up (I thought I would've had more time than that) and now the **** is stuck at an angle. I have tried hard to loosen it but can't. It's basically one with the shifter shaft. I don't want to force it anymore for fear of breaking the base of the shifter shaft.

Does anyone know a good way to remove the ****? And, if not, the entire shifter shaft assembly, can that be removed and replaced with another one? Thanks.

I wonder if paint thinner or acetone (sp?) would work. Maybe getting some in a syringe and squirting it up into the threads. I don't know what eats away super glue for sure though. Good luck with that.

Crap, I may just have to get a whole new assembly, providing that can be taken out and isn't permanently attached with the rest of the transmission.

Will do. I'll just grab a reciprocating saw, a thread maker, and a new **** and I'll be all set.

Wow, shiny. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of money to spend right now. Not until hopefully Friday. I'm going to ask the guy if he has any more of those. If not, I wonder how often those things pop up. Or if a website sells them.

*L* That **** won't come off to save my life. Besides, nothing says a little bit of fun than a "Rotary" ****. Hmm, I wonder if they have those? Something simple and black with a rotor on it.

Take the shifter out and dribble acetone or super glue remover on the thread joint. If that doesn't work, use a hand held propane torch and heat up the shaft, below the ****. Works best if you can secure the shifter in a vise.
