Gas hood strut

I was rifeling through the garage the other day, when I came accross a gas hood strut, and got to thinking how cool it would be to have my hood pop up when I pull the release. but i think it may be to strong. it requires about 20-30LBS of pressure to compact.

Is this too strong?

will the angle it acts upon under the hood give me a mechanical advantage?

might it deform the hood?

If you only have one, it will warp the hood, especially if it needs quite a bit of pressure to activate.

I don't know how much pressure you have to have... I just know that if I mounted it, I'd use two struts going from the suspension tower to the top of the two hood hinge bolts. It might not be the best angle to push from, but it would make mounting a lot easier.

two things:

1. that hood is so short and light that you would likely not warp the hood. think about it, you only lift it by hand from one side...

2. Do you see what I see in the eng comparment pic?

i've been thinking about this very thing. i have two gas hatch struts from an 87 honda crx that are in perfect shape, and wonder if it would be possible. has anyone done this?

Hood support

Blackfire, sorry to disappoint you but what you are looking at is what i believe to be a screwdriver.
Nick1, i believe the hatch supports off the honda are too high of a pressure.
Leif1. 20-30lbs is probably just about the correct pressure based on the light weight of our hoods. But i would recommend 2 for equal weight distribution.
I will look at this situation tommorow and post what i believe will work for you guys.
