gas gauge reading off
is it possible to calibrate this at home?
I have an 83 gsl that i modified the gas tank for a 91 Fuel sending unit even before I did that the fuel gauge never read accurately.
anyone have an easy fix for this?

The FSM shows how to check the sending units for accuracy. I'm not sure, but the 1st gens and S5s may have the same ohm range. If they do and your's is in range, then it's time to change out the dash gauge. The only calibration that can be done is bending the float arm.
Why did you change out the sender to an S5 one, to install an FI intank pump? You can still use the stock 1st gen sender since it's seperate from the fuel pickup, unlike the FCs.
The following link has the online FSMs.

Make sure the sending unit is installed in the correct orientation. The stock sending unit can be rotated and attached in any position since the mounting screws are equally spaced around the hole in the tank. The stock electrical connection should point down. In any other position the float is not traveling up and down, but at some degree of angle. The angled float motion will make the gauge inaccurate.
