Fuel Usage with turbo?

Hi im new on the forums and am interested in selling my prelude to get a series 1 RX7. I was wondering what sorta fuel usage you guys get. Here in Australia, unleaded is now over 1 dollar a litre and i was wondering if an RX7 would guzzle fuel?

Hi BWS- Compared with a Prelude you are going to be disaappointed with fuel consumption.

Your question asks about consumption with a turbo. First you will need a fuel such as Optimix which is now around Aus $1.20 per litre.

For any s1-3 with a 13B turbo implant expect around 12-15 litres per 100km. If you have a streetported version then it could be as high as 20 lp100km.
For a 12A turbo then typically 10-12 lp100km, but can be higher for a 12A carby with aftermarket or gen 2 turbo.
A non turbo stock12A engined RX-7 is usually averages 10 lp100km. Street ported say 15 and bridgeport 20 lp100km.

All this is based on a mixture of city/highway driving. Add about 20%% if you will be driving mainly in town.

The final factor is how you drive. Heavy foot around town really pushes up consumption. A stock gen 1 compared with a late 90s Prelude has a different consumption pattern, about 15% higher on the open road at 100-110 kph but 30-40% higher in traffic. With a 13B turbo then your fuel consumption costs will be nearly double.

The above comment is based on my experience with 12A and 12A Turbo cars, friends in the local rotary club where fuel costs are a common complaint, and an associate with a 1999 Prelude. The president of the club with a large ported big turbo 13B engine says he gets only around 200 km per tank 32 l per 100km , However, I must admit when my Wife drives my RX-7 in her Accord style she gets very good consumption 8-10 lp100km- but then why buy a sports car!

Yes it's used daily, and for long monthly trips of up to 1200km each way on the Hume and Sturt.
