Please for the love of god help me...extremely stumped this time

I know i posted earlier about my headligth problem but i didn't get but one pm (thanks for it though it got me somewhere, i jsut don't know where!!)

here in lies the problem all gauges will illuminate, but when the lights should be up they are nopt. when i manually raise them they go down when it the switch is flipped. How ever they do not go up. When the lights are manually raised they do not light up even when set on bright. I have checked the fuse box 10+ times no blown fuses i have checked the fusibale links on the right wheel well. I don't know where the problem is. They stopped working when i took apart my center console. I attached the headlight flip up switch and they went down( they were up @ the time because i was taking off the shroud to paint it). I have the shrouds back on and all the connections to the center console have been checked. what should i do and where do i start i really need you guys to help me on this one. Without it my dad won't let me drive my rex!! this is an atrocity( sp.)

What year is the car? What did you do when you took apart the center console? Did you install something?

Have you tried fliping the switch that you just added? Do they raise and lower with that switch? What year is the car and what year is the switch from? What if you unplug the switch, does it work then? Sometime the fusible links can be bad and they still look okay. Did you try checking each side of all of the links with a voltmeter? I believe the top one is for the headlights and the bottom is for the headlight retractors.

It's one of the fusable links located on the left front fenderwell area. It's always refeered to left and right as you are sitting in the drivers seat. Try swapping them around, that is where all the power is at for the lights.

When you lower and (try to) raise the headlights, does the headlamp indicator lamp come on? Or is it only turning on when lowering?

I had the same problem. The center council head light switch is a compicated affair. Replaced the stupid thing with two toggle switches. The original plastic switches looked so plastic anyway.

Take a look at the Factory Service Manual located in the FAQ section for detailed troubleshooting steps...

the main problem with the pop-up motor (other than the fusible links) are the plastic white bushing where the arm meets the motor. Over time, they become brittle and breaks. Wihtout it, it aint gonna pop up nor come down.
