i bought this fuel system cleaner, it says high mileage which my car is 95,000 which i think is high enough lol. but im wondering if it is ready needed or what is the best brand to use on my rx7. or if it recommened not to use the cleaner...im not sure so just tell me what i should know.

I don't feel that stuff is legit. I've used it on my old SA and didn't notice a difference. I prefer to get a new fuel filter and run a can of Seafoam. With the seafoam I actually notice a difference.

Most fuel system cleaners are for fuel injected engines. The really good cleaners aren't generally available at the auto parts stores but through auto service centers at exorbitant prices.

 

It was only like 5 bucks, but what is this seafoam?? And where can I get some? What will I be looking for at the store?

 

You can pick it up at any autozone, o'reilly's etc. It works wonders on carbon build up. I drop a bottle in tank, start the car and run for cover. Make sure you do this outside. Your neighbors will hate you due to the smoke show

 

BG Products are what we use at my work as they have applications for everything lubricated on a car and have IMO provided the best results but are generally the most expensive. Their fuel system cleaner that runs through the gas tank is 44K Power Enhancer.

Seafoam and Lucas both do well too, I had my old man use a bottle of Lucas Fuel System Cleaner per tank of gas ['02 Toyota Tundra SR4 lifted on 33's] twice and after doing that he reported a 2-4MPG boost as well as smoother running and that was even before changing the fuel filter.

Seafoam is what I've used a few times and has done me well, I haven't had 'amazing' results with it mostly because last I checked my rotors are still carboned to hell but that falls under combustion cleaning.

Seafoam can be found in a white aluminum can along with the other fuel system cleaners and additives.

As noted with the posts before me there are a few ways to do this and it's mostly up to you to decide.
1. Drive until you have 1/8th of a tank or under 3 gallons, put a full can of seafoam in and drive the **** out of the car then fill it back up. [mostly for combustion cleaning]
2. Run 1-2 tanks of gas using your cleaner of choice, then change the fuel filter after the second tank.
3. Same as #3 but change the fuel filter before and after the two tanks of gas, especially if you are sure you have a ton of buildup possibly in the tank, this helps prevent a possible loss of fuel pressure or stuff plugging up the filter to the point where some of it gets through.
