fuel starvation

I had to pull off the side of the interstate this morning at 330 amdo to my engine stalling on the way into work today. It is definitely a fuel starvation problem. I open the hood and there was no fuel in the side glasses on the Nikki. Not sure if this fixed it or not, but I gave the banjo bolts a light tap with a socket and it started back up, very sluggishly though. It took a few minutes of revving and a couple more taps on the air horn to get it to hold idle. I had to I just the idle mixture slightly to smooth it out enough so it doesn't stall. Now the sight glasses are about 1 16th of an inch on front and back.

the car is always run flawless lee. The only thing that I've changed recently is two msd coils and I installed a c_d player. I have the CD player wired into the cigarette lighter circuit for the main power source. Could this be an issue?

if you were able to tap on the carb, and it fixed it, i would suspect a stuck floats. if it was the fuel pump, tapping on the carb shouldn't have worked, unless something said bosch on it

Stuck needles more likely. A stuck float would usually cause flooding.

Sorry for the grammar, I was using talk to text on my phone...

The first thing I did was look at the sight glasses...empty. Then I looked at the fuel filter, full. So somewhere between the fuel filter and float bowls there was a clog or stuck float needles. I rebuilt the carb about 2 years ago and had the sticky new float needle problem everyone has. Its just strange that both needles would stick SHUT at 75 MPH gentle cruising to work. They usually stick at full OPEN and flood the engine. It was as if the pump just stopped. It felt like I just turn the key off.

I took the air horn apart and put it back together with a spare rebuild kit. It was full of trash. The filter is now full of trash and will be replaced. I hate to say it, but I may need to drop the tank.

Also something strange that Ive noticed is when I use the turn signals the REAR DEFROST light flashes in the instrument cluster. Never did that before.

Yup.

No drain on your SA so pull what you can thru the filler and / or the fuel sender hole (access behind pass rear wheel well panel). Make sure you have a new sender gasket handy.
I used the POR15 gas tank kit to re-seal mine AFTER having a reputable rad shop chem-dunk the tank to clean it out. 4 lines come off the TOP of the tank so make sure you note which goes where!

Been there
