Fuel pump weirdness

So I finally got my car on the road today- or so I thought. Went to turn it on and couldn't hear my fuel pump going. Said **** it and attempted to start it once, maybe I unlocked hyper quiet operation mode or something. I got it to basically do one "pulse" of running before it just offed itself. So obviously the fuel pump decided to stop working. I replaced all the fuses and turned the key, still couldn't hear anything. The car's back on jacks now, but my multimeter is dead so I can't check to see the voltage for now. While I'm waiting, any ideas on what the problem could be? The car was turning on and running just fine the last time I tried (a week ago). Kind of confused how something could just happen out of the blue.

Check the fuel cut relay. If it's bad it can be jumpered.

Where exactly is that? Also, I'm running an aftermarket fuel pump, it's a greddy, not sure if that changes anything.

It right under the dash about where your right knee would be. This is for a 1984-1985. It's a six prong factory relay. There are several threads here that talk about it.

I see you have a 1979 which does not have this relay. The 1979 wiring diagram can be found here.

Get you multimeter working and unplug the connector at the fuel pump. Turn the key to the on position and test for 12V at the connector going to the fuel pump. If you have 12V there, its likely a faulty fuel pump. Pull the pump down and apply 12V directly to the pump and see if it cycles on. If it does not, the pump is dead.

As stated above, there is no fuel pump relay on the 79. Or 80-83 for that matter. 84 was the first year for it and the fuel pump would only cycle on when the engine was cranking or running.

make one

If your multi meter will not get going, you can make a tester out of a 12v light bulb with 2 wires attached. Ground one side of the test bulb, and place the other side on the power lead of the fuel pump . If it lights when you turn on the key, then you have power, if not, then your circuit is the culprit.
Forgive me if you already have this knowledge. I don't know your skill level, and am trying to offer an easy alternate.

Good luck

factory schematic and circuit

If none of this works, I will look at the schematic, and try to "spoon feed" you information to diagnose.

Let us know your progress.

So I finally got around to checking, and there is no voltage at all going to the pump. For now I'm just going to presume the pump is fine, because I need to fix the wiring problem anyways. I'd like to imagine that I'm decent with electrical work but I might need to ask you to simplify stuff. Thanks for the help guys!
