Fuel Pump opinion

I have a '79 12A Street Port which I'm probably gonna Turbo. I need some opinions on what would be the best fuel pump for that setup. Intake is going to be 48 IDA Weber and customer intercooler setup. Thanks in advance, Bob

You need something that will supply at least the carb base pressure plus whatever boost pressure you'll be running with a bit to spare.

Yea he swears by them. And like revhed said, you need to know what boost youll be running so you know what pressure output youll need.

Thanks for the advice guys. Probably gonna be running low boost to start might max out at about 30psi down the road. Should I get something that would accomidate for that now rather than wait? Also who sells these fuel pumps for a decent price?

Hey, I like my Carter too. Of course it is definately noisy until the car gets started then I don't notice it as much. However, I don't think my 100lph, 7 psi Carter would flow enough for a turbo setup especially if you'll be moving to 30psi down the road!

I have the 7psi Carter too, it's noisy a bit, but a pretty good pump. I use a Dellorto + RB exhaust, on a stockport 12a, but i'm putting a 13B gsl-se engine in it next week.

30 psi?! Holy Crap!

You had better do more research about a fuel pump than a couple little questions on the forum! At boost, the fuel pump becomes the most important component you have!

...and I was just poking at Mario about the Carter. I doubt it'll do your situation well.
Mario recommend the Mallory pumps.

You better research this one pretty good. You should just focus on getting the system to run the standard 8-14lbs for now, and concider the higher boost later on down the road. But that's just my opinion, and I do NOT have a boosted car.
The advice is more about setting sights to more reasonable, attainable goals, and then making them better when you get there.
-Ya know,...baby steps.

Dear Lord!! You miss a single day and the Carter Heretics have almost condemned another soul to the grinding Hell that is their premiere fuel pump!

Listen not to this blasphemy and step into the 21st Century, Effendi....

You NEED the Mallory Comp140 which will come with a regulator in the box. Even if you decide to put your mill to the sweet juice, this will be the last fuel pump you have to buy. Gerotor technology is quieter, more efficient and the unit is rebuildable, so you won't be buying another body piece for instance....I'll dig up a pic later...
