fuel pump noise.

I am just wondering if it is normal to hear the fuel pump running from inside the car on an SE? The pump is new (Bosch). The first one was noisier than this one, so I took it back for another one (Bosch). This one is not as noisy, but sitting in the car with the doors closed, I can hear it run with an RB racing exhuast at idle.

the ND pump should be silent, but i would expect a bosch to be loud. i put a bosch pump in mine (out of a K jet car) and it was audible

I've used the bosch and the airtex and both are quiet. Almost silent with the car off (and pump running). Can't hear when car is running. Are you using the stock rubber isolators and the rest of the stock mounting? The rubber sometimes gets rotten, so people ditch the rubber and use zipties or something else to hold the pump. If you use all the stock mounting and the rubber is in good shape, it should be quiet.

Another thing to look at is the pumps will become loud if you have some restriction in the lines or pickup tube. A friend I was helping had an SE that would idle great, but would die if you tried to drive it. Sounded like a fuel issue, so he replaced the pump and filter..problem still there. The pump was louder than it should have been also. Fuel pressure at idle was fine, but if you tried to drive (even a couple feet), pressure would drop to like 10-15 psi and the car would die. We did a fuel volume test and it was wayyy low. Found that the pickup and return tubes in the tank were totally clogged up. Cleaned the tank, cleaned the tubes, and all is good now. You may have a partial clog somewhere in your system.

I have a Airtex pump on my SE and can hear some noise from it when the engine idles. I could also hear some noise from the stock pump as well and the stock insulators are there and in good shape.
