Fuel pump issues

Hey guys i have had two redline fuel pumps die on me. now i just bought my first holley blue. just curious what could be causing these problems? i have had my carb'd 13b for a while but never had these issues until i swapped my stuff to another shell. (btw its a 2nd gen) and its a external pump so i don't know if i should have just a hose going straight into the tank or should i have the stock set up? any advice would be appreciated.

Hmm, when I bought mine (85 gs) the PO had killed a brand new pump, be cause the tank was rusty and he didn't bother to change the fuel
filter. Kinda sounds like what you have going on. You need to have some kind of substantial filter between the tank and the pump.

I bet your new shellvhad been sitting a while.

If you put the engine in a 2nd gen shell, why aren't you running the in-tank fuel pump and a Mallory 4309 fuel pressure regulator? Fwiw, the 2nd gen reduces voltage to the fuel pump at idle to reduce fuel pressures. There's a mod in the forum to supply full voltage all the time to the pump.
